Writer Wealth Lab: Your Guide to Freelancing Freedom

Picture this: You’re a fresh-faced freelance writer. (We’ll skip the logistics for a moment) That all-important first client phone call just took place. They’re interested in starting a partnership with you and want to see a proposal and contract. You take a few minutes to celebrate (always important). But then panic sets in. Let’s start with a quick introduction.

Writing communities and freelance writers need one another.

Yes, I know you picked freelancing because you enjoyed the solo operation. Writers, as a whole, prefer to avoid human interaction as much as possible. So why on earth would I suggest Writer Wealth Lab or any other community?

Because writing as a career is also complicated. Remember all of those negatives that come with freelancing? They come with friends. And while you gain knowledge the more work you do, every client and project are different. It takes nothing to find yourself wondering how to handle:

• Pricing negotiations
• NDAs
• Scope or deadline changes
• Kill fees

If you’ve never encountered a business issue before, you won’t know the best way to get yourself to the other side. But the odds that someone else has dealt with the problem (and I’m NOT referring to Google) are high. And within a writing community structure, those people are willing to help. No one wants to watch another struggle and fail.

One little cry for help on a forum, and you have all the answers, suggestions, and encouragement you need to get through the stickiest situations.

Writer Wealth Lab is the community developed by Mandy Ellis.

Mandy’s a content marketing writer and content strategist out of Austin. She has over ten years of experience in the freelance game, handling everything from articles to copy to white papers. And she has the awards to back up her brilliance.

Community

I didn’t have a membership in any writing communities when I started. I floundered around on my own, basing everything on my reading and research. And while it got me started, I fell into pitfalls and made mistakes I could have avoided with that camaraderie.

Maybe the Wealth Lab isn’t the place for you. But do you need SOMEWHERE you can turn to when you’re confused or feeling pressured to make a decision you don’t understand? Absolutely. That’s why these communities exist.
